When you meet someone, think about those features you notice first — and remember afterward — and the odds are good that a winning smile and bright eyes figure at the top of the list. Your smile and eyes can speak volumes before a word comes out of your mouth.
So, if drooping eyelids are swallowing up your eyes, there’s a great way to open them back up and allow your eyes to shine bright — eyelid surgery.
Also called a blepharoplasty, Dr. Jonathan Zelken calls eyelid surgery one of his top three favorite procedures because it delivers excellent and dramatic results in very little time.
And many Americans agree; eyelid surgery is routinely ranked as one of the top 5 cosmetic procedures performed each year in the United States.
As with most plastic surgeries, there’s no one-size-fits-all procedure, especially in Dr. Zelken’s capable hands. Instead, we tailor your eyelid surgery to your specific goals.
In broad terms, a blepharoplasty can tackle several different issues that occur around your eyes, especially as you age, including:
When you sit down with Dr. Zelken, you can discuss what aspects you’d like to work on, and he can discuss the various ways to meet your goals.
While Dr. Zelken does great work for all ethnic groups, when it comes to eyelid surgery, he’s a leading expert in Asian blepharoplasties. After spending time in Asia observing eyelid surgery, he brought this knowledge home and performs blepharoplasties that address cosmetic goals while preserving your natural ethnic appearance. To boot, we even have a Mandarin translator on staff.

Now let’s get into what you can expect during a blepharoplasty. For starters, we perform eyelid surgery on an outpatient basis, which means you can return to the comfort of your home for recovery.
To keep you comfortable, we use local anesthesia, oral sedation, and/or twilight sedation, depending upon your desires. If we do use sedation, please have someone there to take you home afterward.
After your procedure, our team ensures you have complete aftercare instructions. You can expect some bruising and soreness, but these should dissipate over the following week. At the end of the first week, we will remove the sutures and, by the end of the second or third week, you will be ready to debut your new look.
